An aerial survey is a process of image acquisition of a surface from an elevated position. Nowadays, specialists widely use human-crewed and uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAV) to take photographs of the surface. High spatial resolution and good quality of images display the real situation on the surface.

Survey drones generate high-resolution orthomosaics and detailed 3D models of areas where low-quality, outdated or even no data are available. They thus enable high-accuracy cadastral maps to be produced quickly and easily, even in complex or difficult to access environments. Drones can’t possibly replace a surveyor on a job site, but they are a valuable tool in a surveyor’s toolbox. Like any other tool, they’re helpful only in conjunction with people, not instead of them. Accuracy-Rapid improvements in UAV and camera technology over the past decade have enabled drones to utilise cameras that can shoot up to 5.2k resolution images and video.
